Over two thousand triathletes will descend on Marbella for the 2024 Ironman 70.3 event, during which streets will be temporarily closed to traffic as competitors strive to earn the title of ‘Ironman’ of the year.
The city of Marbella is preparing for the Ironman 70.3 competition set for 27th October, taking place across its streets. The council is in the process of installing 15 information panels to notify road users about the one-day street closures as participants compete in this prestigious triathlon event.
An Ironman Triathlon is part of a series of long-distance races organised by the World Triathlon Corporation, featuring a 3.9 km swim, a 180.2 km bike ride, and a 42.2 km marathon run, completed sequentially for a total distance of 226.3 km.
These signs are being strategically placed along the bicycle race route, one of the three segments in the competition, stretching between Puerto Banús and the Ojén road. ‘The aim of these “totems” is to inform residents in advance that this section will be closed to traffic from approximately 6:30 am to 3:00 pm, enabling them to plan their journeys accordingly,’ explained the mayor.
Over 2,000 triathletes from 65 nations will gather for the Ironman 70.3 Marbella 2024, an event that is already at full capacity.
