Marbella is set to host the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship on November 8 and 9 2025, an event that will significantly boost the city's international profile. 30,000 visitors are expected, with a predicted Over 7,000 athletes and an estimated 20,000 to economic injection of approximately €60 million and media exposure exceeding €16 million.

Logistics and Security

The event involves a massive logistical operation with over 3,000 personnel, including organisers, volunteers, and technical teams. Security will be a major focus, with more than 130 local police officers deployed daily, supported by other law enforcement and emergency services. The race route extends through neighbouring towns like Cártama, Coín, Monda, and Ojén, which will assist with coordination. The city will also undergo a transformation with suspended structures, such as bridges and walkways, to ensure safe passage for participants and spectators.

Visitor Facilities

A central hub for visitors will be the 5,000-square-metre Ironman Village, which includes a 3,000-square-metre exhibition area. Additionally, 18,000 square metres of plastic flooring will be laid to improve accessibility. Ceremonies and community events will take place at various locations, including a large tent at Finca La Caridad and a flag parade and fun run at Puerto Banús’ Plaza Antonio Banderas.

Preparation and Disruption Management

Marbella's Sports Councillor, Lisandro Vieytes, has confirmed the city's readiness to handle the event. A comprehensive information campaign on traffic restrictions and road closures will begin a month before the event to minimise disruption. Various city departments are working together to ensure the championship is a success, using over 150 vehicles, 5,500 cones, 2,000 concrete barriers, and 4,000 fences for the setup.
