To compile the rankings, InterNations conducted a comprehensive survey of over 12,000 expats from around the world, encompassing 177 nationalities and residing in 181 countries or territories. The survey took into account various factors, including quality of life, ease of integration, personal finances, and more. From this extensive research, the list was created, ranking 49 cities based on how expats perceived their experience living and working abroad in the past year.

In addition to claiming the top spot overall, Malaga also secured the number one ranking for local friendliness and climate and weather. Malaga also emerged victorious in the subcategories of work and leisure, as well as work-life balance, solidifying its position as the ultimate city. Expats couldn't stop singing praises about Malaga's safe environment, affordable public transportation, abundance of recreational sports, and vibrant social life.

The report considered factors such as quality of life, ease of settling in, personal finance and more. Expats were asked to rate their satisfaction with various aspects of living in their city, including:
