The Mayor of Mijas, Ana Mata, has announced that the Town Hall has taken official possession of the new Grand Park
the 270,000-square-metre green space that is now the largest urban park on the Costa del Sol. The construction phase is complete, with some adjustments made to the original design to improve its functionality.
Park Features
Located in the El Ahogadero area, the park boasts over 2,900 trees and a redesigned planting scheme to significantly reduce water consumption. Its amenities include basketball and five-a-side football courts, a dog park, a 1,500-seat amphitheatre, five children’s playgrounds, a skate park, a splash park, and various fitness stations. The park also features a boating lake.
Future Plans and Maintenance
Annual maintenance contracts, worth €3.29 million, have been awarded for landscaping, security, and facility upkeep. The Town Hall plans to offset these costs by leasing out concessions for services such as food stalls and bicycle rentals. An open day for residents to visit and provide feedback is anticipated for early September, although no specific date has been set. Additionally, a second phase of the project, including two pedestrian bridges over the Fuengirola River, is scheduled for approval in September with a budget of €26.6 million.
